Description

WHIP — Build an app, from your phone

Backed by YC, WHIP makes it possible to turn your ideas into fun, personal mini-apps and games — all right from your phone. No code required. Available on iOS and Android.

What is WHIP?

WHIP is a mobile-first platform that lets you create interactive mini-apps and lightweight games, publish them with shareable links, and invite others to play, remix, and build alongside you. It’s a social playground for creators who love turning ideas into accessible, remixable experiences.

Core features

  • No-code mini-apps built on mobile: design and iterate directly from your phone.
  • Instant publishing: every app you build gets a unique share link you can send to friends or post publicly.
  • Social remix culture: watchers can play, remix, and make the app their own, creating a collaborative loop of ideas.
  • Public showcase: watch what the tribe is building, discover new creators, and grow your own audience.
  • Cross-platform availability: available on both iOS and Android, so you can build and share with a wide audience.

How it works

  1. Create from your phone: sketch out ideas, add interactions, and shape the experience without writing code.
  2. Publish a share link: every project becomes a tiny web-native app accessible to anyone with the link.
  3. Share and remix: friends and followers can play your app, remix your idea, and evolve it in their own style.
  4. Build a tribe: discover other builders, follow creators you like, and grow an audience around the type of content you love.

Use cases

  • Quick prototypes: validate concepts with a live, playable demo without heavy setup.
  • Social games and interactive experiences: turn ideas into playful experiences you can share with friends.
  • Storytelling and education: deliver interactive narratives or bite-sized lessons that users can remix.
  • Team ideation: collaborate with teammates by sharing ideas as interactive mini-apps.
  • Personal portfolio of experiments: showcase your creativity with a living set of remixable projects.

Why creators love WHIP

  • Speed and simplicity: launch ideas in minutes and iterate in real time.
  • No-code empowerment: explore interactive creation without learning to code.
  • Strong community: follow favorite builders, remix what they make, and grow your own audience.
  • Global reach: publish publicly, learn from others’ work, and connect with a worldwide tribe of makers.

Built my entire SaaS on Bubble — $40k MRR now

I was skeptical about no-code but Bubble proved me wrong. I built a B2B client portal with complex permissions, Stripe billing, and real-time notifications. The learning curve is real — give yourself 2–3 weeks — but once it clicks, you're unstoppable. Performance has been solid at our scale.

Incredibly powerful, but the learning curve is steep

Coming from Webflow, Bubble felt overwhelming at first. The editor UX isn't as polished, and performance on complex apps can feel sluggish. That said, nothing else lets you build a full database-driven app without code. The community forums are excellent — almost every problem has been solved by someone.

Great for MVPs, but pricing scales poorly

Used Bubble to ship our MVP in 6 weeks, which was genuinely impressive. But once we needed real capacity, the jump from Growth to Team ($29 to $529/mo) was brutal for a bootstrapped startup. The server unit model is also confusing to reason about. Would love a mid-tier option.
